How to Stay Active and Healthy While Traveling and Celebrating Holidays

Staying Active During Travel and Holidays

Summer is here, and it’s the perfect time to make travel plans or enjoy a sunny getaway. While we all need breaks to refresh and recharge, travel and holidays can disrupt our exercise routines and fitness goals. At Therapy and Performance Clinic in Warwick, we understand the challenges of staying active while travelling. Here are some practical tips to help you maintain your fitness wherever you are.

Follow Online Workouts

One of the easiest ways to stay active while travelling is to follow online workouts. Utilise fitness apps or work with an online personal trainer to get a workout in your hotel room, on the beach, or wherever you happen to be. Many exercises require no equipment, such as squats, lunges, sit-ups, planks, and push-ups. Packing lightweight items like resistance bands and a yoga mat can also help. A fitness coach can tailor your routine to fit your schedule and available resources while you're away, ensuring you stay on track with your fitness goals.

Incorporate Activity into Your Day

No matter what type of holiday you're planning, look for ways to stay active. For instance, if you'll be sightseeing, try to get around on foot or by bicycle instead of using buses or taxis. Plan outdoor activities for a few days of your holiday. In hot climates, watersports like surfing or paddleboarding are great ways to stay cool and active. In cooler areas, consider hiking, trail biking, or horseback riding. These activities can help you explore your destination while staying fit.

Staying Active During Transit

Long periods of transit can make staying active more challenging. Use time between changeovers to stretch your legs rather than sitting in the waiting lounge. If you're travelling by car, plan frequent breaks at places where you can walk, such as country parks instead of motorway service stations. Pack nutritious snacks like fruit and nuts to maintain your energy levels and avoid the temptation of fast food.

Be Realistic and Enjoy Your Holiday

While it’s important to maintain your fitness, it’s also crucial to relax and not place unrealistic expectations on yourself during your holiday. Set reasonable goals, such as 20 minutes of intense activity per day or 60 minutes of moderate to gentle activity. Avoid burdening yourself with a stringent routine that might spoil your holiday with guilt over unmet goals. Remember to go easy on yourself, and if you do miss a workout, simply pick up where you left off when you return.

At Therapy and Performance Clinic in Warwick, we believe in a balanced approach to fitness, even while travelling. Enjoy your holiday, stay active, and remember that it’s okay to relax and recharge. When you return, we’ll be here to help you get back on track with great fitness, elevated energy levels, and a healthy, balanced diet.
